"Some say it's simple to get your authority, and that you should save your money and do it yourself. Other people, including myself, are not sure where to even begin. I used a service provided by DAT to get my authority. It was important to me that it was done right the first time, by people who have done this before."
- Chad Boblett - Boblett Brothers Trucking
"They took me by the hand an led me through all of the diffiult and confusing steps to ensure that I started off on the right food. I cannot say it any clearer than these folks know what it's all about."

Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) is a requirement for carriers and brokers transporting commercial freight. The Unified Carrier Report is the central component of your UCR permit registration, allowing you to calculate the correct amount of operational fees for your trucking business. Submitting your correct information to the UCR is an annual process, which is separate from your FMCSA requirements. DAT Authority Gold and DAT Authority for Brokers can fill out your UCR requirements for you, with experts available around the clock to provide assistance.
UCR renewal is an annual requirement, and your business’s UCR fees will be the same wherever you’re registered. At the end of each year, truckers and brokers both need to submit UCR forms to state-level authorities. Submitting your forms on time allows you to pay the relevant UCR fees for your transportation business, without paying extra for late or incomplete registration.
The UCR cost depends on what type of business you have — and it changes from year to year. When you successfully submit your UCR application at the end of each year, you’ll get a certain level of UCR fees deducted from your taxable income. Fees depend on how many vehicles are in your fleet (for carriers), or how many vehicles you’re brokering. The DAT Authority price includes UCR and a wide range of other services, at a flat yearly rate for each package.
The UCR fees on transportation businesses are technically set by your state-level transportation authority, which means you’ll need to comply with state-level UCR requirements through your home jurisdiction. However, the UCR is a federal law for transportation professionals across the country, set by a nationwide council of UCR representatives from different states. In other words, your UCR fees and requirements will be the same wherever you live — you’ll just need to file UCR with state, not federal, authorities.
UCR renewal is available through the UCR website (UCR.gov) with personal documentation available through the UCR application process. Whether you’re a broker or a carrier, you’ll need to fill out the UCR form with specifics on your operating history for the year, and the number of vehicles you’re servicing. Our experts at DAT Authority can fill out your UCR forms for you, with authority professionals to answer any questions you have along the way.
Essentially all carriers and brokers transporting commercial freight need UCR registration. However, each business demands a different amount of UCR fees. Although a few states do not have a UCR program, you may still need to fill out UCR requirements for fees within non-UCR states. You can find out whether or not you need UCR registration using the UCR’s registration compliance helper.
