Flatbed Caps a Strong Monthly Rise

Nationally, flatbed rates are up $0.07 per mile in themonth of April. In the latest week, 28 of47 major lanes followed showed increases for a net 0.6% rate gain. Further, no major markets recorded a declinein price indicating nationwide support for flatbed freight.

Chicago remains the top gaining market in the latestweek, up by 2.5% and up by 5.3% for the month. Los Angeles has also been ‘hot’ lately moving up 6.5% in the last monthbut just 1.2% in the last week.

Rates to the East Coast continue to experience upwardrate pressure. The already high Chicagoto Philadelphia flatbed rate rose another $0.30 to $2.65 per mile, a 12.7%increase. This parallels trends seen forvan equipment type with rates rising to Philadelphia, and falling for van andreefer traffic leaving Philadelphia.
