Rate Trend of the Week: Rates Improve in the Final 7 Days of November

Rates increased for all equipment types in the final seven days of November.

Van rates improved 0.4% week over week and Chicago saw a 1.6% increase in rates compared to the previous week, as recorded in TransCore’s Truckload Rate Index. The lane rate from Portland to Stockton jumped up 35%, week over week, most likely due to Christmas tree shipments. Santa is on his way!

Conversely, rates from Memphis dipped 2.4% after four consecutive weeks of increases. Seasonal volumes in this region have declined, as seen in the lane rate from Memphis to Dallas, which slipped 10%.

Reefer rates rose 0.5% compared to the previous week, with help from Chicago, up 2.4%. Flatbed rates are up 0.6% in the seven days ending November 30. The increase offers some stability to flatbed carriers after four consecutive weeks of declining rates.
