Shippers begin planning for a post-pandemic world

With vaccine distribution underway, shippers are now planning for the slow return to normal life, anticipating the transportation trends in 2021.

“While the distribution efforts will not impact the majority of the industry, preparation for the post-pandemic world has both demand and supply implications,” according to the December Pulse Report from DAT iQ. Potential shifts in consumer spending, plus new trends affecting the availability of truck drivers, create new wrinkles when planning for the year ahead.

The report showed contract rates rising again in November after dropping slightly in October. DAT iQ forecasts show a slower rise in contract rates for Q1, and it will likely take a few months for the markets to digest these rates.
