< Back to posts

Spot market rates remained stable or declined after June’s high for all equipment types in July compared to June, as recorded in TransCore’s Truckload Rate Index. Flatbed rates remained stable at $1.76 per mile for line haul, while reefer rates declined $0.16 (9.4%) and van rates dipped $0.05 (3.6%), compared to June. National average rates tend to mask strong regional trends, which are discussed in other blog posts, as well as in the Rate Trend of the Week feature of our Trendlines web site.

Rates declined seasonally in July on the spot market for vans and reefers but remained stable for flatbeds. In the first half of August, flatbed rates and freight began to slip, as reefers appeared poised for recovery and van rates stabilized.
