The holiday season often brings a sense of gratitude and a desire to give back. It’s a time when communities come together to support causes that matter. One of the most moving traditions during this season is the mission of Wreaths Across America, an organization dedicated to remembering our fallen U.S. veterans, honoring those who serve, and teaching the next generation the value of freedom. This initiative culminates in a powerful, nationwide tribute that connects us all.

This year, we are especially proud to highlight the journey of the wreaths and the dedicated drivers who make it all possible. From the starting point in Maine to cemeteries across the country, this convoy is more than just a delivery—it’s a mission of honor. We’ll explore the path of the convoy, the significance of National Wreaths Across America Day, and how you can be a part of this incredible movement.

The start of the journey: The annual driver convoy

Every wreath has a story, and that story begins in the quiet woods of Maine. The journey officially kicks off with the annual driver convoy, starting this year from December 5th to 7th. This event marks the beginning of the cross-country mission to deliver hundreds of thousands of wreaths to their final destinations.

The convoy has grown to include dozens of trucks driven by volunteers, many of whom are company drivers from across the transportation industry. They donate their time, trucks, and fuel to ensure every wreath reaches its destination. It’s a powerful display of patriotism and community from the heart of the trucking world.

This year, our own Dean Croke will be in Maine, attending the drivers’ lounge to meet and support these incredible men and women as they prepare to embark on their long journey. It’s a chance to thank them personally for their commitment to this honorable cause.

Remember, honor, teach

The core of Wreaths Across America is its simple yet profound mission: to Remember, Honor, and Teach. This mission guides every action, from the harvesting of the balsam firs to the final placement of the wreath.

Remember the fallen

The primary goal is to remember the sacrifices of our nation’s veterans. By placing a wreath, we make a promise to never forget their service and their role in securing our freedoms. Each wreath is a personal act of remembrance, a way to keep their memory alive.

Honor those who serve

The initiative also honors all who serve and have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as their families. These are the people who continue to protect our way of life. The project serves as a living tribute to their ongoing dedication and courage.

Teach the next generation

Wreaths Across America is committed to teaching younger generations about the value of freedom and the importance of honoring those who have sacrificed to protect it. By involving youth in wreath-laying ceremonies, the organization ensures that the legacy of our veterans endures. It’s an educational experience that instills a deep respect for our country’s history.

National Wreaths Across America Day

After traveling hundreds or even thousands of miles, the convoy and trucks will arrive at their destinations by December 13th. This date marks National Wreaths Across America Day, a day of coordinated wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 4,000 locations across the United States, at sea, and abroad.

On this day, volunteers from all walks of life gather to lay the wreaths on the graves of veterans. It’s a quiet, respectful, and deeply emotional moment. Volunteers are encouraged to say the veteran’s name aloud as they place the wreath, a simple act that ensures their memory is spoken and their sacrifice is not forgotten.

The sight of countless headstones adorned with green wreaths and red bows is a breathtaking visual representation of our collective gratitude. It transforms these hallowed grounds into a unified landscape of honor.

While ceremonies happen nationwide, the one at Arlington National Cemetery holds a special significance. It’s one of the largest and most prominent events, drawing thousands of volunteers each year. This sacred ground, the final resting place for so many of our nation’s heroes, becomes a focal point for the country’s remembrance.

We are proud to share that Dean will be on-site at Arlington, serving as a radio host for the event. He will be broadcasting live, sharing stories, and capturing the spirit of the day for listeners everywhere. His presence underscores our commitment to this powerful mission and to the men and women who have served our country.

How you can get involved

The beauty of Wreaths Across America is that everyone can participate. Whether you have a personal connection to the military or simply wish to express your gratitude, there are many ways to contribute. This initiative is not funded by the government; it relies entirely on the generosity of individuals and businesses.

You can sponsor a wreath, volunteer to lay wreaths at a cemetery near you, or help coordinate a ceremony in your community. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. It helps ensure that no veteran is ever forgotten.
